MABL WINS SECOND ANNUAL WINTERBALL GAME, 6 to 3

In the Fall River Baseball Tournament (SMBL), the Boston MABL squad finished 3rd overall, finishing with a record of 4-3. Six MABL teams were represented on the roster, including the Royals, Braves, Reds, Red Sox, Marlins and Dodgers.

Brockton Indians, Booth Champions -- The Indians defended their title by beating the Somerville Senators 5-3 in the third (fourth) and deciding game of the rematch of last year's finals.
Newton Red Sox, Perry Champions -- With a 9-2 win in Game 2, the Newton Red Sox sweep the Hyde Park Devil Rays to win the Championship in their first season in the League!
North Andover Thunder, Norman Champions -- in a doubleheader sweep against the Brockton A's, North Andover wins the Championship in their first season in the League!
Duxbury Twins, MSBL 40+ Champions -- Duxbury defeated the Homestead Gray Sox 6-1 to sweep the series, two games to none! |

BMBL & LUIS TIANT HOST SOUTH END YOUTH BASEBALL CAMP

Today at Jim Rice Field, the Boston Baseball League hosted the South End Youth Baseball Camp to improve youth baseball in Boston. Throughout the day, close to 35 kids aged 8-12 participated in drills and a mini-scrimmage. Red Sox' pitching great Luis Tiant also was in attendance. ATLANTIC BEATS BAY STATE IN MABL ALL-STAR CONTEST

The Braves defeated the Rockies, 9-8, in an exhibition in Cooperstown, New York at Doubleday Field -- home of the Baseball Hall of Fame. Note: The MABL Indians and Mets were to play in Cooperstown on June 17th, but they were rained out.

The Boston Baseball League Tryout was held this past Sunday at Cleveland Circle. For the third straight year, more than 200 players were in attendance to try out. For the MABL 18+ Division, 42 of 145 players were drafted. Congratulations to Matt O'Hara, the #1 MABL Draft Pick overall to the Royals. NEW ENGLAND BANDITS ROBBED

Welcome back to the MSBL New England Bandits, who returned from Caribbean Championship after advancing to the Semi-Finals, but losing in that round to the Florida Sea Dogs 9-5. The Bandits finished with a 3-2-1 record (versus 3-2 in 2001).

Players from the Boston MABL and MSBL competed in the Walt Disney Classic in Orlando, Florida last week. The Boston Wolfpack (4-1) came in second overall after winning last year. See The 2002 Wolfpack Photo Gallery.
The Long Rhode Stars (1-2) and the New England Top Hats (1-1-1) also competed and represented our local MABL/MSBL chapter.
