2005 marked the inaugural season for the Boston Senators. The first season was characterized by many ups and downs,
but overall it was a success with the team finishing in 3rd place out of 9 in the Bay State division with a record of 15-10-1.
Unfortunately, the Senators came up short in the first round of the playoffs, but took the Astros the distance
forcing a decisive game 3 with an exciting 4-3 win in game 2.
In the regular season, the Senators notched at least one win or tie against all but three teams. Notable wins include:
- a 7-3 victory over the previously unbeaten Reds who ended up in the MABL finals
- hard fought wins over the playoff bound Padres, Marlins, and Dodgers
- a 5-4 win over the Indians which proved to be the tie-breaker between 3rd and 4th place
- a 10-3 victory over the Giants in the last game of the regular season to force a tie for 3rd place
Other notable accomplishments in 2005 include:
- In the regular season, the Senators scored more runs than every other team except for the Reds and the Indians
- The Senators were the only MABL team to make the playoffs at the annual Cooperstown tournament
- Peter Grasso finished 4th in the league for Rookie of the Year. Pete was also selected as the league's premier
shortstop finishing 2nd overall in votes. Pete also finished 4th overall in hits, 3rd overall in doubles, 3rd in runs, and 3rd in
stolen bases
- Coach Dave Timmons finished 3rd overall in Manager of the Year voting while batting an even .400
- Rookie pitcher Matt Coyne won his last 6 starts in a row with big wins over the Padres, Marlins, Giants and Astros and
a save against the Indians. Matt also finished 5th overall with 5 wins
- Rookie secondbaseman Jim O'Donnell finished 4th overall in player's choice voting and ended up 5th in the league with
an on-base percentage of .531.
- Peter Grasso, Greg Conant, and Jason Ackerson were the first players in Senator history
to represent the team at the MABL All-Star game. It was the first appearance for all three.
