The Sox season came to a crashing halt as the Bluefish swept the White Sox to advance to the Atlantic Conference Finals for their first time in team history. Bill Beauchesne went the distance for the Bluefish victory, allowing 4 hits and 1 earned run, while walking 1 and striking out 7. The Bluefish were led by Jim Belcastro, who went 4-4 with 2 runs scored, and Chris Harrington who went 2-3 with 2 RBI's. Al Wiesner pitched well in relief for the White Sox, going 3.2 innings and allowing only 1 run after coming in for Brian Houlding who had started the game and absorbed the loss.
Offensively, the White Sox scored in the second inning when Dave Martin led off and was hit by pitch. Nate Pane singled Martin to third and then Martin scored on a Mike Lembo ground out. The other Sox run scored when Al Wiesner reached on a two-base error and was plated by a Jason Hoye RBI-single. Joe Fitzgerald, Dave Martin and Nate Pane has the other Sox singles in the game. Until 2005.

Eamonn McDonough couldn't have pitched much better (7IP, 5H 1R 1ER 3BB 8SO) and the Sox defense could not have played stronger (no errors), but the lack of offense cost Game 1 of the Atlantic Conference Semifinals. Bluefish ace Kit Kadlec (7IP 3H 0R 0ER 1BB 8SO) kept the Sox at bay all night. While the Sox had runners in scoring position during 4 innings, base hits were not timely enough to drive in any runs. Mike McInnis, Nate Pane and Jason Ackerson were able to muster the only Sox hits of the night. The Bluefish scored the lone run of the game in the 4th inning, when with one out Mike Knell walked, advanced to 2nd on a sac bunt by Kadlec, and scored on a 2 out single by Al Becker. Game 2 of the Best of 3 series will be held Friday night.

REGULAR SEASON
|
August 31, 2004 - Sox pound the Grays to polish off regular season
The White Sox closed out their 22-4 regular season with an 18-run attack over the Grays. The Sox scored in each inning, with some unlikely heroes: Tom Manning picked up his first two hits and first RBI of the season with a 2 for 3 performance; Jon Banchick doubled in his only plate appearance of the season with an RBI, finishing at a 1.000 clip with a slugging average of 2.000; Brett Rudy doubled his hit production on the season with a single, double and 2 RBI; and 9 other Sox also hit safely. And Al Wiesner and Earl Murphy were each HBP exactly twice, a feat no other MABL player had done all season. Lost in the shuffle was Dave Martin who pitched 4 innings of 2-hit ball with 7 K's to improve to 5-1. Mike Lembo closed out the final frames in his first mound appearance of the season, allowing only one hit.
August 29, 2004- Sox beat Cardinals, but lose top seed to Yankees
The Sox battled through scorching heat to defeat the
Cards. The Sox grabbed 2 runs in the first inning help of a Al Wiesner double, Ryan
Gray double and Earl Murphy single. More runs could have scored, but the Cards tossed
out Wiesner at the plate, and later Billy MacDougall hosed Gray at thirdbase.
August 12 & August 29, 2004- Sox take 17 days to beat Reds
Dave Martin and Sean Magee battled it out at Ryan Field. The Sox produced a quick 1-0 lead when Al Wiesner led off the game with a walk, stole second, advanced to third on a Matt Giblin grounder, and scored on a Jason Hoye grounder. But the Reds quickly tied the score and took a 3-1 lead which they would sustain until the 7th inning. So, with one out in the 7th inning, Joe Fitzgerald reached on error, Jason Hoye singled and Dave Martin reached on a walk to load the bases. Mike McInnis ran for Fitzgerald and Manning ran for Martin to add speed to the bases. Then Earl Murphy hit a fielder's choice to third that allowed McInnis to score. So with 2-outs, Manning on second, Murphy at first, and down 3-2, Nate Pane steps up to the plate and delivers a game-tying single scoring Manning. That was all the Sox would muster. In the bottom of the 7th, with Wiesner now in to pitch, the rains came down instantly and suspended the game with the Reds' Brendan Moore batting. Game Suspended: Bottom 7th, 0 outs, 0 on base, 2-2 count on Brandon Moore. So picking up 17 days later, Al Wiesner pitched 2 innings of scoreless ball to shut down the Reds. The Sox won courtesy of a Mike Lembo double and a Ryan Gray RBI-single.
August 28, 2004 - Sox explode over the A's
The White Sox jumped out in explosive fashion, highlighted
by 2 walks, a Jason Hoye single, a Joe Fitzgerald double and an Earl Murphy 3-run
homer in the first inning to take a 5-0 lead. Kevin McGowan entered in relief of
Rob Sherman and held the Sox to 5 more scattered runs over the course of the game,
4 of which were unearned except for a Jason Hoye homer in the 7th inning.
August 26, 2004 - 5th Sox shutout of the season tossed by Pane
In Nate Pane's first start on the mound for the Sox this season, he brought a 1-hitter into the 7th inning and shutout the Atlantic rival Cubs, 2-0 (he finished with a 3-hitter). Nate also led the White Sox offense, as he finished the day 3 for 3 with an RBI and a run scored. Mike Lembo had the other RBI while Jason Hoye scored the other run. Kevin Krueger pitched a complete game in defeat for the Cubs. August 23, 2004 - Sox play their Cards and win a pair
Dave Martin pitches a 2-hit gem, allowing the Sox to beat the Cardinals for the first time in their franchise history. Both hits came in the Cardinals 3rd, when a Billy McDougal walk, Conrad Paquette single and 2-RBI Dan Jalbert triple did the damage. Martin finished with 8 K's on the day and improved to 4-1. The Sox had struck first to make the score 2-0 with the help of a walk, error, and Nate Pane single which was aided by two more bases from an outfield miscue. Then Jalbert had tied it in the next frame to make the score 2-2. So with a 2-2 score, Jason Hoye had an RBI single in the bottom of the 3rd inning to score Mike McInnis who had walked. Neither team scored the rest of the way through various threats by both sides. Jeff James took the complete game loss.
August 23, 2004 - Sox round up the tribe en route to sweep
Al Wiesner improved to 5-1 while allowing 4 hits over 6 innings with 8 K's to defeat Daryl Pina and the Tribe. The Indians scored their lone run when Everett reach on error and later scored. Earl Murphy led the offensive force with a monster 2-RBI triple in the 6th inning that approached the Ryan Field left field fence. Jason Hoye and Mike Lembo also had RBI singles that inning. Al Wiesner had the other RBI with a single earlier in the game, and in the 7th inning, stole his 62nd base which put him into 1st place of the White Sox all-time list, passing Adam O'Hara.
August 14, 2004 - Sox back to winning ways; Houlding makes history
Brian Houlding held the Astros to 4 hits in his complete game effort, while Gary DiPerna took the loss. Houlding set White Sox history twice. First, his 11th career win tied him for 1st place all time on the Sox list with Chris Walsh. Second, he recorded his 100th career strikeout when he K'd out Rich Newman in the 6th inning, and finished the day with 101 K's. The Sox offense was led by a 3 for 3 performance by Kyle Michaud and capped by a pinch-hit, 2-run homerun by Eamonn McDonough. Dan Field and Joe Fitzgerald also had multi-hit games for the Sox. The game's final out was a sliding play in centerfield made by Brett Rudy off the bat of Tyler Walsh. Rudy had entered earlier in the inning as a defensive replacement for Jason Hoye. The Astros lone run scored when Dave Kwajewski walked and later scored on a Tyler Walsh sacrifice fly.
August 8, 2004 - Sox handed giant loss
After winning 31 consecutive games when scoring 1+ run, the red hot White Sox finally lost. The Giants pounded out 8 runs in the 2nd inning off 5 hits and 3 errors and the Sox were deflated. Brian Houlding lost his second game, able to muster just 1.1 innings of work. Eamonn McDonough finished the inning after 2 more hits and a walk, as the Sox were behind 9-0. Joe Fitzgerald moved over to finish the game and allowed only 3 hits and 1 run the rest of the way. The Sox lone ray of hope came in the 5th inning. Matt Giblin stepped up to pinch hit with the bases loaded and delivered a 2-out, 2-RBI single. That was all the damage the Sox would record on the day.
July 24, 2004 - Wiesner shutsout Grays to earn Sox share of 1st Place
Al Wiesner brought a no hitter into the 5th inning
before surrendering a 2-out single to Wesley Sims. Wiesner settled for a 2-hit complete
game shutout, the Sox second shutout in as many days.
July 23, 2004 - Sox win 30th straight game when scoring more than one run
Eamonn McDonough tossed his fifth consecutive complete game shutout (MABL/2 & Yawkey/3 leagues combined) in a game he started. He also notched his 100th career strikeout as a member of the Boston White Sox. Jason Hoye and Al Wiesner each tripled to spark the Sox offense. In the first inning, Al Wiesner led off with a single. Knowing early it would be a low-scoring affair, Mike McInnis bunted Al to second. But after a strikeout, Al was running with the pitch with the count full to Jason Hoye. Hoye drew a rare walk and Al was thrown out at thirdbase. So the score remained 0-0 until the bottom of the 4th inning. In the 4th, Joe Fitzgerald hit a one-out single. Jason Hoye followed with another trademark RBI-triple. Hoye was stranded at 3rd base after two quick infield outs. But the Sox tacked on an insurance run in the 6th inning when Wiesner hit a one-out triple. Then with 2 outs, Joe Fitzgerald hit a hard grounder to second which was bobbled, allowing Wiesner to score. The White Sox won their 30th straight game in which they scored more than 1 run.
July 17, 2004 - Everybody shows up for the Sox bash
The White Sox put on an 18-hit, 16 run onslaught against the MABL defending champion Dodgers. The White Sox wasted no time in getting started, as Al Wiesner led of the Sox game with a double and scored the first run. By the second inning, the Sox scored 4 runs in three consecutive innings before tacking on 3 more in 6th. Ryan Gray and Dave Martin each went 3 for 4 with a triple and Nate Pane also had 3 singles. Al Wiesner, Mike McInnis, Jason Hoye and Kyle Michaud also had multi-hit games. Not to be overshadowed was Dave Martin who pitched a gem, allowing only 4 hits with 12 K's in 6 innings to improve to 3-1. With his 3 hits, Martin also improved his Sox best batting average to .429. The Sox last score this many runs on June 15, 2002 when they scored 18 versus the Mariners at Olympic Stadium in Montreal. For the Dodgers, Kevin Beliveau had half the team's offense with a double and a triple.
July 15, 2004 - Sox in the red for first time since May
For the first time since May 23rd and almost 2 months, the White Sox lost a baseball game. It was a streak that lasted 10 games, the longest in White Sox history and the longest such streak in the league this season. It was a close game at Chelsea High. The White Sox started the scoring in the fourth inning with an Al Wiesner single - the first Sox hit of the game. Al moved over to second base when Mike McInnis was hit by a pitch. Ryan Gray then delivered with an RBI single scoring Wiesner. But the Reds answered back in the bottom of the frame. Tony Ramos drew a walk, moved to second on a fielders choice. Wes Leary then got a hit and stole second. But the throw to second base allowed Ramos to score, tying the game. In the Reds fifth, Matt Bloomer drew a two-out walk,
stole second, and Chris Chase hit a single to drive in the eventual winning run.
July 10, 2004 - The Sox roll over the Royals for 10th straigth win
In a defensively-challenged game by both sides, the
White Sox came out on top for their 10th straight win to regain control of the Atlantic
Conference.
June 26, 2004 - 9th straight win capped with a shot of Guinness (er, McInnis)
With a double-header sweep over the Orioles, the White Sox extended their franchise-best winning streak to 9 games and their MABL-best record to 10-2, a two game lead over the rival Yankees. In game one, Brian Houlding (4-0) led the way on the hill. Houlding tossed 5 innings, allowing 1 earned run from 4 scattered hits with 3 K's. Eamonn McDonough earned the save, tossing the final two scoreless innings, with 4 of his final 6 outs comebackers to the mound. Offensive stars included Ryan Gray (3 for 3, triple, 2 runs) and Dave Martin (2 for 2, 2 doubles, sac fly). Eamonn McDonough also picked up a pair of hits. Game two was led by a complete-game 3-hit performance from Al Wiesner. In addition to gaining his second win, Al also notched 7 K's and scored the Sox first run after leading of the Sox game with a walk. Dave Martin continued his hot hitting, going 2 for 2 with yet another double, his third on the day. Mike McInnis capped off the game with a 2-run homer in the 6th inning, scoring himself and Brett Rudy who had walked. June 21, 2004 - Seventh straight win gives Sox Best Record in MABL
Last season, the White Sox began the season 1-3 before they won 7 straight games to become 8-3. This season, the Sox began the season 1-2 before winning 7 straight games to improve to 8-2. Tonight's win over the Marlins moved the White Sox into 1st place in the Atlantic Conference and improved them to the best record in the MABL. Dave Martin improved to 2-1 on the season with his second consecutive win over the Fish, this time throwing a 2-hit complete-game gem, the second straight 2-hitter tossed by the Sox staff. June 19, 2004 - Sixth straight win moves Sox into 3-Way Tie for First Place
Eamonn McDonough and the White Sox shutout the Yankees for the first time since the Yanks were blanked by the Rockies on June 24, 2001. On that occurrence, Greg O'Keeffe, then of the Rockies, tossed a no-hitter. Here, McDonough allowed singles to only AJ Bucciarelli (who he picked off first) and Jeff Coveney. In fact, only one Yankee runner ever made it into scoring position. The White Sox entered the bottom of the 6th inning in a 0-0 game. Nate Pane walked with one out and advanced to second on a fielder's choice. Now with 2 outs, Nate's lead off 2nd forced a throw from Yanks catcher, Tim Troville. The throw went high and allowed Nate to take 3rd and head for home. The throw came in, and Nate slid under the tag. SAFE! Ken Kilduff was equally effective for the Yanks in this tough loss, allowing only 3 hits with 8 K's and no earned runs. Frank Kowalski walked twice (the only two walks allowed) to increase his league lead to 12. The White Sox also set a team record for most assists in a 7-inning game with 16. The team record overall is 18 set on Opening Day of 2003 when Eamonn pitched 8 innings in the 13 inning contest.
June 13, 2004 - Score A+. Sox win 5th straight by defeating Athletics
The Sox helped Brian Houlding (3-0) celebrate his 24th birthday with their 5th straight win. Houlding tossed 6 innings for the win, allowing only 1 run and striking out 7. Offensively, the Sox were held at bay by Kevin McGowan of the A's, who didn't allow a hit until the 4th inning when Mike Lembo singled. The Sox put up 2 runs in that frame, help of an RBI single from Dave Martin and a double-steal that allowed Martin to score when Jason Ackerson (who had also singled) stole second. The Sox added two more runs in the 6th inning with an RBI double from Joe Fitzgerald and an RBI single from Earl Murphy, making the score 4-1. In the 7th inning, the A's Santi Mazzeo homered to close the score to 4-2, then the A's loaded the bases before Al Wiesner closed the game for the Sox and the save. Former Sox slugger now with the Athletics, John Howe, went 1 for 3 on the day with a single, K, walk and a stolen base.
June 8, 2004 - Pane shuts down Mariners as Sox stack up fourth straight win
Despite coming into Tuesday's game with a win, loss, save and 15 innings under his belt in the last 3 days (from across leagues), Eamonn McDonough was able to last 2 innings in his start versus the Mariners. The Mariners put up two runs to take a 2-0 lead with a first inning single by Freni and a second inning double by Cameron. Enter Nate Pane for the White Sox. Nate took the hill
in the 3rd inning and closed it out, tossing 5 innings of scoreless ball, allowing
just 4 hits and racking up 7 K's. This allowed the Sox offense to battle way back,
and some. Mike Lembo had multiple hits in the comeback, while Joe Lombardi, Graham
Bosworth and Jason Ackerson each had 2 RBI. The Sox run big run production came in
the 3rd and 4th innings. Nate Pane grabbed his first win of 2004, and the Sox won
their 4th straight.
