Jim Lombardo
#44 | firstbase / DH

born November 22, 1975

resides Brighton, MA

Jim "L Train" Lombardo joined the Whitesox in 1999 via the New Player Draft. The Sox had high hopes for Jim in the starting rotation, but an arm injury limited his time on the mound in 1999 and in 2000. So instead, Lombardo showed his skills at firstbase and at the plate, finishing the 2000 season batting .300 and slugging .475. Jim's best game of the season was versus the Dodgers, where he went 2 for 4, with a triple and 4 RBIs to help lead the Sox to a 10-3 victory. Lombardo announced during the playoffs that he had been called to the Coast Guard and may be unable to return in 2001 -- though he has expressed interest in playing weekend games based upon his availability.
