Dan Field, White Sox

A former member of the Rhode Island Independent League in 1999-2001, Dan joined the White Sox from the 2002 New Player draft, where he was 12th pick overall out of 145 registrants. During his rookie campaign of 2002, Dan was one of the league's most patient batters, as he walked 16 times, 4th best in the MABL. Field also reached base safely in the final 7 games of the season, and held a .529 OBP in August, the season's final month.

In 2003, Dan demonstrated that he was truly a leader. Starting all but one game the entire season, Dan's dishwork was fantastic. Dan threw out 12 baserunners trying to steal overall, a remarkable 29% caught-stealing percentage, more than double that of the league average. During one stretch, he threw out 4 straight! And his reputation as a thrower caught on, as 50% fewer runners tried to steal on him than the league average. Dan also led all catchers in the MABL with 170 putouts. Plus, he caught four shutouts setting a team record, including a no hitter thrown by Al Wiesner versus the Athletics on 8/6. At the plate, Dan was equally impressive as he co-led the team in hits with 20, including two 3-hit games and two 2-hit games. And through the first three months of the season, Dan hit a whopping .355 -- helping him to earn selection to the MABL All-Star team.

In 2004, Dan continued to start for the Sox behind the plate, doing an excellent job of leading the league's premier pitching staff. He finished the season with 107 putouts, 12 assists, and just 1 error. On 5/8 versus the Royals, Dan threw out both baserunners who tried to steal on him. Dan's reputation kept many baserunners from even trying to steal the remainder of the season, while he continued to throw out those who tried. Although Dan struggled offensively much of the season, he had his moments of excellence at the plate, such as versus the Astros on 8/14 when he went 2 for 3, scoring 2 runs to help lead the Sox to victory. Behind the plate, nobody has been more dependable than Dan the last number of seasons.
