Mike Burns, White Sox
Mike Burns
#22 | pitcher/firstbase

born September 5, 1977

resides Brockton, MA

college Emerson College, 1999

acquired 2002 Referral from J. Gordon

Mike Burns joined the White Sox as a late addition to replace the injured Jarrett Fay. Dozens of pitchers were contacted to tryout for this slot, but Mike hauled it in after an impressive live pitching/batting session held the day before Opening Day 2002. In addition to his strong arm, Mike also brings leadership, having served as head coach for the Emerson College Lions Baseball team this past season. At Emerson, Mike led the Lions, a sixth seed berth, into the 2002 GNAC playoff finals. Burns is also the head coach for the Emerson College Women's Basketball team.

In 2002 for the White Sox, Mike primarily worked from the pen, making 7 scattered appearances and eating some innings. Mike's most memorable day was likely in Montreal at Olympic Stadium -- not only did Burns pitch a scoreless inning, but he was also able to collect his first base hit of the season.
