| Sam has intensity on the mound and at the plate that help drive
the White Sox. In 2001, Sam won his first MABL start over the Giants. Sam also lowered
his ERA in each of his final 10 outings. But Sam's most impressive achievement in
2001 was versus the Champion Yankees where he set
an MABL record by striking out all 4 batters he faced in the 4th inning. At the plate, Voolich was one of the toughest batters in the MABL
to strike out, whiffing only once in every 13.5 at bats over the season. Versus the
Tigers, Sam also became 1 of less than 10 MABL'ers to hit a ball out of Boston English
field in more than 1,760 league-wide at bats. In 2002, both Sam's batting and pitching improved. Through Sam's first 7 pitching outings of the year, he was a perfect 3-0. In 3 of his appearances during the season, Sam did not let up a single run. Sam nearly doubled his innings and strikeouts versus a year ago, all while cutting his ERA by almost 1 full run. Sam was also the White Sox' winningest pitcher, with twice as many wins as any other Sox pitcher. At the plate, Sam also improved his batting average, slugging average and on base percentage versus a year ago. His best performance was versus the Mariners at Olympic Stadium in Montreal where he slugged a pair of doubles. Sam also hit .350 during day games and .500 during August, the final month of the season. In 2003, Sam explored new opportunities with the Mariners.
