John Howe, White Sox

John Howe joined the White Sox after playing a season for the Medford Astros in the East Coast Baseball League, where his team won the league championship in 2002. In 2003, during Howe's White Sox and MABL debut, a start versus the Mariners, he picked up the win allowing 3 hits and 1 run through 4 innings of work. By season's end, Howe was 3-1 with a 1.40 ERA and 17 K's through 20 innings. Moreover, Howe allowed just 1 earned run in each of his appearances, except one, where he allowed no earned runs. And he never allowed more than 2 runs total in any appearance. Talk about consistant dependability.

Additionally, at the plate, Howe batted a respectable .300 -- third-best on the team. His most memorable hit was against the Royals where he reached base in the bottom of the 8th inning via single, and proceeded to score the Sox' winning run in walk-off fashion later that inning. But Howe's best offensive game was versus the Cubs were he went 3 for 3 and also stole home as part of a double-steal. Whenever Howe was called upon, he always seemed to deliver.
