Matt LoPresti was selected as the White Sox only
pick in the 2005 MABL Draft (14th selection overall). Prior
to joining the Sox, Matt spend 4 years playing for the University of Colorado at
Boulder baseball squad within the Rocky Mountain Conference of the National Club
Baseball Association where he graduated in 2001. There, he played first base and
was also the #2 starter on the hill. He also was honored to serve as team Captain
both his junior and senior years. In fact, as a senior, Matt skillfully tossed a
no-hitter against Western State College.
His first week after joining the Sox in 2005, Matt participated in the 100 Innings
of Baseball Spectacular at Campanelli Stadium in Brockton, MA. Remarkably, he tossed
18 innings in this game - more than any other pitcher in the contest.
In LoPresti's 2005 rookie season, he also tossed 18 innings, often showing signs
of brilliance. LoPresti's first MABL win came on August 6th as a shutout against
the Red Sox. In this complete game, Matt allowed just 5 hits and 3 walks to go with
6 strikeouts. But nobody will forget his outing against the Indians on June 12th.
In this game, the Sox were losing 5-2 going into the last inning. The Sox scored
4 runs in the 7th inning to take a 6-5 lead. LoPresti then came in relief to close
out the game. LoPresti struck out the first batter he faced, but then hit Daryl Pina
with a pitch to put the tying run on base. LoPresti settled in and retired the next
two batters for a scoreless 7th and earned the his first MABL save and the Sox first
save of the season. In fact, of 5 of 7 of LoPresti's outings in 2005, he did not
allow an earned run.
Appearances: 2006 Atlantic Conference Champion, 2005 MABL Champion, 2007 MABL All-Star.
