Tom Spoth was selected by the Royals their inaugural season in the 2001 MABL Draft. His rookie season, Spoth smacked out 19 hits and compiled a .352 batting average. His sophomore season, Spoth once again had 19 hits, but improved his power significantly, slugging at a .403 clip and notching 20 RBI, second-best on the squad. By 2003, the Royals won their first Atlantic Conference Title and Spoth played an integral role, ripping 7 hits in the post-season. In 2004, Spoth hit .361 through June and was selected to his first MABL All-Star Team. By the end of the 2005 season, Spoth was sitting on a career .292 batting average and 97 career hits. The Royals merged with the White Sox and Spoth joined his new squad. For the 2006 White Sox, Spoth notched his 100th career hit on June 13th versus the Orioles. He had 2 hits and 3 RBI that day helping the Sox to a 7-2 victory. Spoth battled injury much of the season, leading to an uncharacteristically low season average of .219, though Tom still played in 21+ games for his 5th straight season. And in the post-season, Tom hit .318 and led the team with 7 RBI to help the White Sox win their second straight Atlantic Conference Title. In the real world, Spoth is a staff writer for the Lowell Sun. One of his baseball-related articles was "Grand Prize Could Be Grand Slam for Sox Fans" -- of course, Tom was referring to the Massachusetts Lottery's new $5 Red Sox Instant Ticket as the first MLB team to have its logo placed on a lottery ticket. Appearances: 2006 & 2003 Atlantic Conference Champion, 2004 MABL All-Star.
