acquired 1998 New Player Draft

Ian Lev was drafted by the White Sox in 1998 and quickly became valued for his versatility. On August 2, 1998, Lev became the first (and still only) player in White Sox history to play all 9 positions over the course of his career. Lev played firstbase, pitcher, shortstop, left field and catcher that day to complete the feat in a single season. He played great defense wherever he played. Once playing thirdbase versus the Braves in May 1999, Lev made the play of the game when he turned a solo double play. With men on 1st and 2nd and no out, Lev scooped a quick shot to third, tagged the bag, and gunned to first for the Sox' first double-play of the season. Lev also had pop in his stick. When he hit .278 his rookie season, half of his hits were for extra bases, allowing him to slug .472. Lev retired midway through the 1999 season.
