The White Sox lost their elimination playoff game to the old rival Braves, 11-1. Chris Walsh faced off against Chris O'Sullivan in a real pitchers dual. Going into the fourth inning, the Braves had a narrow 1-0 lead.
But O'Sullivan proved a tough opponent, striking out 12 while allowing only 3 hits in the complete game victory that ended the Sox' season. The three Sox hits were picked up by Brett Rudy, Jon Mead and Mike Gennaro.

In the game versus the Indians, the Indians took an early lead and never looked back. Josh Gordon and Brett Rudy pitched 6 innings combined, saving the arms of the staff aces for the playoffs. Darron Henn pitched the seventh inning and recorded 3 strikeouts, proving that he can play the closer role quite well.

Chris Walsh pitched fantastic for his 7th straight game to get the win, allowing 5 scattered hits over 3 innings. Josh Gordon pitched the final 2 innings, allowing only 2 hits and only 1 earned run.

In the bottom of the seventh inning, the Sox attacked for five insurance runs, all of which were needed. First, Mike Gennaro lead of with a single. Then, Aaron Hutchins launched a moonshot that went for a ground-rule double. Jon Mead walked to load the bases. Dave Timmons knocked the first run in on a fielder's choice. Kiant Hammond knocked in the next two with a clutch hit ball the went in for an error. Kevin Gazda then picked up two RBIs with a similar grounder to short.
In the bottom of the seventh, the Rockies rallied for 4 runs to bring the game within one run. With the bases loaded, nobody out, and the winning run a second base, Darron Henn pitched amazing relief the shut the door on the Rockies to give the Sox the victory.

The White Sox shelled the Astros in a 21-5 victory, thus improving their playoff ranking and their record to 9-10. Not to be overshadowed by the heavy bats was the outstanding pitching performance of Scott Bevis. By throwing the complete game, Scott improved to 2-0 with a 2.15 ERA over his last 3 starts.
At the plate, the Sox hit 5 homeruns while 12 different Sox scored one or more runs. Let's recap the highlights:

The White Sox brought themselves into a 5-way tie of fifth place with the Giants, Indians, Cubs and Dodgers by defeating the Dodgers 10-3. The Sox are 2-2 against these non-divisional teams, having split with the Cubs, beat the Dodgers, but having lost to the Giants. In the event of a tie, head-to-head is the determinant. Placing sixth place or better would allow the White Sox to avoid the single-elimination playoff round.
Scott Bevis pitched his best game of the season, allowing only 1 hit, 1 walk, and no earned runs in 5+ innings. Darron Henn pitched the final 2 innings allowing only 2 hits and no earned runs.

For the second time this season, the Sox picked up consecutive wins to pull within one game of .500. The Cubs had jumped out to a 4-0 lead after four innings, but the Sox battled back, tying the game in the bottom of the fourth off singles by Aaron Hutchins and Jon Mead, a double by Dave Timmons, and a triple by Bart Lawyer.
The Sox then took the permanent lead in the sixth inning, batting around and scoring seven runs off hits by Dave Timmons, Jim Lombardo, Bart Lawyer, and a double by Kevin Gazda.
Scott Bevis started the game for the Sox, throwing three and two-thirds strong innings, and Darron Henn pitched the final three and one-third innings allowing only one earned run to get the win. Overall, it was a very well game played.

In one of the league's oldest rivalries, the Sox once again defeated the Braves, as Chris Walsh outpitched former Cy Young winner Chris O'Sullivan. Walsh (2-1) allowed only one earned run in 4 innings to pick up his second win of the season. Nirav Patel pitched 2 2/3 of 4-hit ball to earn the hold, while Darron Henn closed the door to retire the final batter.
Offensively, the third inning was record setting. For starters, it was the second straight third inning where the Sox scored 7 runs. But more amazingly, during this single inning, the Sox hit four triples to set a full-game Sox team record. Triples were hit by Murray Reed (2 for 3), Josh Gordon (2 for 3), Mike Gennaro (2 for 4) and Aaron Hutchins (2 for 3). Ironically, these same four Sox batters each had multi-hits on the game.

It was a beautiful day for baseball, as was the game that followed. The Mets jumped out to a 3-1 lead by the third inning. Battling back, in the fourth inning, the Sox made it 3-2 after a Jim Lombardo double and a Jon Banchick RBI single. The Sox tied the game a 3-3 in the fifth inning on a Josh Gordon single and Jon Mead RBI single. The score stood at threes until the Sox took the lead on a Jon Mead single, steal and a Game-winning RBI sacrifice fly by Mike Gennaro.
But the true story of the game was Nirav Patel. Nirv pitched the complete game to pick up the victory, allowing only 6 hits hits and 3 walks with 5 strikeouts. But more impressively, Nirv only allowed 1 hit in the final four innings.
Both the Sox and Mets played solid ball, completing the game in under 2:00 hours.

The White Sox defeated the previously undefeated Rockies 12-11 in one of the greatest nail-biters in Sox history. The Sox jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead via a leadoff homerun by Mike Gennaro. The Rockies rallied for 4 runs in the bottom of the inning. From the second inning onward, it was all Sox. Chris Constant (3-1) picked up the win.
The Sox brought a 12-9 lead into the bottom, of the seventh inning. The Rockies rallied for 2 runs to bring the score to 12-11. With the bases loaded and one out, Scott Bevis held the Rockies to seal the victory.
There was not a Sox player without contribution, but the highlights include:
But most importantly, the Sox wish farewell to veteran Jon Brolin who will be leaving the team to pursue his career in New York City. The Sox wish Brolin and his fiancé, who are getting married this September, the best of luck. Fittingly, Brolin reached base and scored in his final Sox plate appearance.

From the outfield, Josh Gordon showed his cannon arm once again, nabbing his third runner of the season trying to advance a base on him. Give this kid a gold star.
Offensively, the Sox were led by the fine bats of Aarron Hutchins, Dave Timmons and Jon Mead, each of who collected multiple hits.

The White Sox took a first-inning lead over the Diamondbacks and never looked back, winning 8-5. The game was played sharp all around.
Sox pitching was sharp: Chris Walsh picked up his first win since May 16th of last season going three innings of 1-hit, 1-earned-run ball. Nirav Patel picked up the save, throwing the final four innings and allowing no-earned runs on one hit.
Offensively, the White Sox picked up nine hits. Jim Lombardo led the attack with 2 hits and 2 RBIs, surpassing last year's totals in both categories. Brett Rudy and Dave Timmons also had two hits apiece.
Defensively, the play of the game was unquestionable a Diamondbacks drive hit down the right-field line. The D-backs runner attempted to stretch the single into a double, but apparently was not aware who was playing rightfield. Josh Gordon hustled after the ball and fired a one-hop strike to Mike Gennaro at secondbase for the Sox' first outfield assist of the season. What a gun!

The Sox lost their opener in disappointing fashion to the Pirates 23-8. Jim Lombardo started on the hill for the Sox, striking out 7 in three innings, allowing only 4 hits. Behind Lombardo, the Sox took a 5-3 lead into the fourth inning. When Lombardo came out, things fell apart A seven-run 4th inning and eleven-run 7th inning sealed the Sox' fate.
Overall, the game was not well played. The Sox allowed more errors (6) than hits (5). Additionally, Sox batters struck out 15 times -- 56% of their at-bats.
The Sox look for redemption against the Cardinals this Sunday.
