2005 Boston White
Sox to Rogers Centre
Toronto, Ontario
|
Athletics 10, White Sox 9 (in 10 innings)
|
In 2002, the White Sox played the first ever MABL regular season game in Canada by facing off against the Mariners at Olympic Stadium in Montreal. They played in Montreal again in 2003, but opted to play in Cooperstown in 2004. So in 2005, with the departure of the Expos from Montreal, the White Sox moved across Canada to play the first ever MABL game in Toronto at the Rogers Centre, home of the Toronto Blue Jays.
The A's defeated the White Sox, but not without a fight. For the second straight game, the Sox trailed by 3 runs going into the final inning and rallied for 4 runs to take a lead. However, unlike their win last week versus the Indians, this week, the A's tied the score in the bottom of the 9th inning and sent the game into apparent extra innings. The Blue Jays staff insisted the game end in a tie since it was 2:15 AM. However, after Scott Reinold let them try on his World Series ring and players roared a few chants of "Let them Play, Let them Play," the Jays staff allowed one extra inning.
In the top of the 10th inning, the White Sox failed
to score. For the A's in the bottom of the 10th inning, Ed Perez walked to lead off
and then stole second. After a bunt, Adam Nichols delivered a 1-out GWRBI single
to plate Perez for the walk off victory.
